“Did you know according to the ‘Market Research Future’, tufted woven carpets, are recently contributing around 30-35% of the global market revenue?💸”

Looking out for types of carpet fibers, wool yarns for comfort underfoot, etc wasn’t easy. In fact, you’d be surprised to learn that I found it to be quite overwhelming of a task.

Woven Carpet Types

The good thing was I took note most common types of woven carpets and their unique characteristics😏 And my expedition ended with the conclusion of woven carpets having ultimately 3 prime types. They are named as –

  • Axminster Carpets
  • Wilton Carpets
  • Flat Weave Carpets

By the time I finish explaining all these 3 carpet styles, you’ll be ready to decide and buy the best one for yourself. So… why the wait? Let’s dive in!

Things you’ll be doing here are –

What are the common types of woven carpets?

There are certain techniques, following which carpets are woven mostly. Not to mention these serve a great deal to make these amazingly durable carpets as well.

What are the common types of woven carpets

So, in short… carpet manufacturing companies define that these techniques are what produce the different types of carpet. And to be frank there are 3 most common types of woven carpets.

Here’s a quick intro of the woven carpet types you’ll be reading about –

  1. Axminster: Known for its lavishly unique patterns and designs, Axminster carpets are often used in high-end hotels and luxury homes.
  2. Wilton: These carpets are well-accepted for their durability and are often used in commercial settings (I highly recommend too). They can be woven in a variety of textures and patterns.
  3. Flat Weave: This type of carpet is made without a pile, giving it a flat and smooth surface. It’s often used in areas with high foot traffic. So for you to worry about your plush carpet being good for stairs or not.

Woven Carpet Types Explained

Woven carpets are created through intricate weaving techniques, offering a range of textures and patterns. Here is an elaborated explanation of 3 common types I talked about earlier.

What is Axminster Woven Carpet?

Axminster carpets are well known for their luxurious feel and durability of course. And that’s not a surprise really that they are made using a traditional method where each tuft of yarn is woven into the carpet backing, allowing for intricate patterns and vibrant colors.

These carpets are often found in prestigious installations like hotels and theaters like places. By the way –

“Did you know that Axminster is actually made of material that has a blend of 20% nylon and 80% wool?”says the East Coast Flooring Interiors

What is Wilton Woven Carpet?

Wilton carpets are mainly named after the town of Wilton in England, where they originated🏡. These specific types of carpets are woven on a loom that can produce a variety of textures, including cut-pile and loop-pile you know…

The weaving process allows for detailed patterns and a wide selection of colors. And oh boy the tension and speed among the weavers… if only you could see! In any case, Wilton carpets are considered to be an excellent option for both residential and commercial spaces. 💯

What is a Flat Weave Woven Carpet?

Flat weave carpets, unlike pile carpets, do not have a tufted surface. They are made by weaving horizontal yarns through vertical yarns, creating a flat and durable surface. These carpets are often used in high-traffic areas due to their durability and easy maintenance.

Flat Weave Woven Carpet

Flat weave carpets are perfect for busy households and commercial settings.

You can use this type of carpet to decorate walls and floors, with area sizes ranging from 2 m² to 25 m². Many find this type of plush to be wearing well. Azerbaijani Carpets are the living legend in this department😎.

Not to brag but I actually did a small survey of which types are more popular. I had input from sellers and buyers too for that matter.

Some said they preferred looped yarn, some went for synthetic carpets of wool carpet, and some even talked about uncut piles of nylon carpets. Honestly, there were many distractions but eventually, I sorted them and had an approximate idea of which type of woven carpet has the famous rankings…

How to Identify Woven Carpet Types

To identify woven carpet types apart I suggest that you use 3 easy tricks. The job can be tricky sometimes for all I know, especially if it’s made of synthetic fiber partially. But… worry not here are the tricks you can use:

  • Examine the Backing: Woven styles of carpet will have a unique pattern on the back part, showcasing the weaving technique. It would be different from a regular sewing machine so don’t mix it up alright?
  • Check the Edges: Look for signs of how the carpet is finished. Woven carpets often have neatly finished edges.
  • Feel the Texture: Woven carpets typically have a firmer texture compared to tufted carpets.

Woven carpets are 3 times more durable than twist carpets. So, you can rest assured about durability, which makes it the popular choice for heavy traffic areas. However, I suggest you keep upto medium pile carpet is fine. But keep woven plush carpets out of the picture.
