Hmm… not enough to understand the market yet, right? Tell you what I’m not done yet just you keep reading. Now, I’ll be explaining all about the most common types of plush carpets soon enough. So, shall we start?

1. Plush Nylon Carpet

Characteristics:

Plush nylon carpet is famous for its softness, providing an incredibly comfortable feeling underfoot. Plush nylon carpets are characterized by their dense pile construction that is not only plush but also offers a comfortable warm texture, making it suitable for places where comfort is prioritized.

Plush Nylon Carpet

Nylon carpet fibers are designed by the Carpet and Rug Institute to retain their looks for decades despite usage, yielding a plushness and softness that lasts if cared for properly.

Materials:

Plush carpets made from nylon are quite on the resilient and durable side. Common backing materials include polypropylene or Jute, which provide stability and support for the carpet. Hey… now reading the name of Jute don’t you confuse them with seagrass carpet type alright!

Lifespan:

Well-cared-for plush nylon carpets can last upwards of 12-15 years. Of course, this all depends on routine vacuuming, immediate stain removal, and the occasional professional cleaning. The American Flooring Alliance says the average life expectancy for a nylon carpet is about 14 years, making it a long-term investment for the homeowner.

Maintenance:

As the fibers don’t absorb water easily it’s pretty easy to clean. However, I as an expert suggest that to enjoy the cloudy plush of your carpet make sure to get it cleaned professionally every 12-18 months.

Suitable Places:

Plush nylon carpets would go perfectly in areas of your household comfort and luxury-oriented, such as bedrooms, home offices, guest rooms, nurseries, and children’s rooms. This is indeed ideal for areas where people walk with their bare feet, sit, or lie on the floor.

Caution:

The plush nylon carpets should be aired out for at least 72 hours before installation to remove the VOCs and PFCAs that they give off. These chemicals also often come with new carpeting and add to indoor air pollution, possibly resulting in health problems if not sufficiently ventilated. According to the recommendations of the Environmental Protection Agency, if there are new carpets, they should be aired out in a well-ventilated area for this period.

Cost:

Available at all the price points around the market; thus, it can be affordable, and the price can also be based on your budget and choice.

Variation:

The two main plush types of nylon are Nylon 6 and Nylon 6,6, with each providing different benefits. For instance, Nylon 6,6 is known to be more durable and stain-resistant than Nylon 6. Even between these types based on many experts experience the nylon 6,6 is the better one– says Coles Fine Flooring.

Now about marking on nylon, yeah… I agree that just like other types of plush carpets showing footprint and vacuum marks nylon carpets do the same too.

But hey… take note when I say that the advanced antimicrobial and stain-resistant treatments more than make up for it.

2. Berber Nylon Carpet

Characteristics:

Berber nylon carpet is a loop pile construction with a textured appearance similar in style to the traditional weaving patterns of the Berber people from North Africa. This makes it versatile to fit into various decoration styles.

Berber Nylon Carpet

Durability:

Berber nylon carpets could last between 10 and 15 years with proper care. One could double or triple the life span of the carpet with regular maintenance such as vacuuming or spot cleaning.

Materials:

These carpets are made of nylon fibers, which are very resilient and resistant to wear. A few Berber carpets may also be made from olefin fibers, but these can be less expensive and may not be as resilient as nylon.

Lifespan:

With good care, your Berber nylon carpets may last up to 10 to 15 years. This includes regular deep cleaning every year, or at most every two years, to extend the life span and beauty of your carpet.

Suitable place:

At their best, Berber nylon carpets suit high-traffic areas like family rooms, hallways, and offices. Due to the durability aspect, they are an excellent choice for places that demand a heavy-duty floor covering.

Density:

Berber nylon carpets typically have a density rating of 1500 to 3000, reflecting a tightly woven construction that resists matting and wear. Higher-density carpets are more durable and can support heavy foot traffic more effectively.

Static Resistance:

It has also been observed that the Berber nylon carpets produce less static, and its maximum rating is often 1.0 KV. Hence it is very suitable for those areas where static is a problem.

Installation Cost:

The average price of installing the Berber nylon carpet in one room is around $1,600 or $6-$10 per square foot. This can be altered due to the quality of the carpet chosen or due to installation challenges.

Maintenance:

The Berber nylon carpeting should be deep cleaned at least once or twice a year to help keep it in good condition. Regular vacuuming together with immediate spot cleaning of spills can also make the carpet look at its best and last longer.

This type of carpet draws inspiration from the traditional weaving techniques of the Berber people of North Africa. By the way, I first came to know that Berber went quite viral back in the 90’s.

Berber went quite viral back in the 90’s

Hey… did you know? Apparently “Stainmaster’s Berber carpet features a proprietary polymer nylon fiber that resists stains really really well!”

The sad most annoying con of Berber’s carpets to me is how easily they get crushed. The Berber loops can become crushed under constant foot traffic. And when it does and the loops are flattened, the carpet tends to look much dirtier than it actually is. Which means more maintenance trouble.

If you’re resilience concerns are confused between plush carpet vs. low carpet then surely Berber wins the game. But in the case of softness… well it is more on the textured and sturdier side compared to plush.

3. Frieze Nylon Carpet

Characteristics:

The tightly twisted fibers of the frieze nylon carpet set it apart from other carpets and give it an incredibly casual and relaxed look.

Frieze Nylon Carpet

These fibers are turned tightly enough that they usually curl over themselves, giving the carpet a somewhat shaggy look that might be tough to clean but helps disguise dirt and footprints well. It is an excellent option due to that reason for active homes.

Lifespan:

Frieze nylon carpets are designed for long-lasting performance, which easily survive daily wear and tear in active homes. Properly maintained-scheduled vacuuming and periodic professional cleaning every 12 to 18 months carpets can reasonably be expected to maintain appearance and functionality for about 10 to 15 years. The major contribution to such a long service life is resistance from the nylon fibers themselves.

Suitable place:

Frieze nylon carpets are best laid in places with heavy traffic where comfort and durability stand as ultimate needs. Good places where these carpets can be laid are playrooms, basements, and family rooms. In nature, resilient, the carpet is practical in spaces used for children to play, pets to roam, or heavy foot traffic occurring each day.

Twist Level:

In Frieze nylon carpets, the normal twist level is 3 to 5 twists per inch. Under steam conditions, the twist gives the characteristic look and feel. The higher the twist, generally, the stronger the carpet is against crushing. When the fibers twist, they create a springy texture that will jump back after being walked upon and add to its durability.

Prices:

A good quality frieze nylon carpet will cost about $8 per sq/ft. Costs keep on changing with respect to the thickness of the carpet, the fiber quality, and the brand. Adding up the cost to this is the installation cost, says HomeAdvisor, putting the investment for a regular room at about $1,600. The initial investment puts people off, but it really is worth every penny due to its long life and durability.

Nylon frieze carpet hides footprints and vacuum marks well, making it a practical choice for busy homes. “Did you know Frieze types of nylon carpet are also called sometimes?”

It’s actually the modern version of our ever-known old shag carpet from the 1960s and 1970s. But a better and much more sturdier version of shag. My favorite part of this carpet is how it feels so soft and comfy underfoot but also hides marks and footprints very neatly.

However, the sad part is it also hides dirt really making it really complicated to clean. Not to mention it costs more while offering less stain resistance.

4. Saxony Nylon Carpet

Characteristics:

Saxony nylon carpet boasts a plush, velvety surface that adds elegance and a touch of class to any room. The feel underfoot is luxurious, so for a house that exudes sophistication in its looks, it is the house owner’s ultimate choice.

Saxony Nylon Carpet

Materials:

Saxony nylon carpets are made from 100% nylon fibers, which are basically soft, durable, and stain- and abrasion-resistant. Nylon is a versatile synthetic fiber with good color retention, available in a wide range of colors since it can be easily dyed.

Lifespan:

With proper care, a high-quality Saxony nylon carpet can last up to 12 to 15 years. It can even stay longer by undergoing the maintenance process several times, which includes vacuuming or professional cleaning of the carpet.

Suitable Place:

Saxony nylon carpets are good for living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms since they add warmth and comfort to such places. Their classy outlook makes them complement traditional and modern interior designs.

Resilience:

Thanks to their dense construction, Saxony nylon carpets have great bounce-back, maintaining their look over time. That makes them suitable for areas with average foot traffic.

Variation:

There are 2 major types of Saxony nylon carpets— Straight Saxony and Textured Saxony. Straight Saxony includes fibers that simply stand straight up and are cut to an even length to give a uniform appearance. Textured Saxony nylon carpet has fibers kinked or twisted in different directions to help mask footprints and vacuum marks.

Pile type & Pile Height:

The pile height of the Saxony nylon carpets is roughly around 1 to 1.5 inches, and it feels very lavish underfoot. The densely packed fibers give a soft plush pile. Most Saxony carpets have a cut loop pile, and the pile normally does not exceed a half-inch high. In this respect, this type of pile contributes to the softness of the carpet and to the feeling of luxury.

“By the way did you know that a good quality Saxony nylon carpet Cashmere IV has a face weight of about 97oz!”

If you ask me the perk I find most effective is that color aside, these Saxony types of nylon carpet for its classic look is almost never out of style. But just like every other plushy and aesthetic carpeting beauty, Saxony carpet shows footprints quite a bit. And that for me is quite a setback while considering as my carpeting option.

5. Textured Nylon Carpet

Characteristics:

The pile in textured nylon carpet is twisted to create a texture on the surface. This construction has the effect of concealing footprints and vacuum marks, making this carpet particularly effective in busy households.

Textured Nylon Carpet

Materials:

Textured nylon carpets are made from robust synthetic nylon fibers that guarantee durability and the ability to withstand intense usage. Nylon is one of the most popular choices due to its strength and resilience to stains.

Lifespan:

If well taken care of, a textured nylon carpet may last up to 10 to 15 years. Regular vacuuming with occasional professional cleaning will help keep it looking its best.

Suitable Places:

Textured nylon carpets work really well in a living room, bedroom, and for high-traffic areas. They are quite versatile with regard to usage in homes because they possess durability and can mask wear and tear easily.

Fiber Thickness:

The normal fibre thickness of textured nylon carpets ranges from 30 to 60 denier. The range makes a nice compromise between softness and durability, yielding a carpet that is particularly comfortable to walk on without sacrificing resilience.

Ease of Maintenance:

Textured nylon carpets are easy to clean and look after. Routine vacuuming removes dirt and other debris while preserving the look and life of the carpet.

Weight:

Weight for textured nylon carpets usually measures around 600 to 700 g/m². Due to this weight range, the carpet is durable and has a plush feel.

Cost:

The average installation cost for textured nylon carpet is from $3 to $7 per square foot. Because of its price range, it makes for a more economically feasible choice to provide homeowners with an equal balance of quality versus cost.

Pile Height:

For residential purposes, most textured nylon carpets have pile heights of 10 to 12 mm. This height provides a comfortable and cozy underfoot experience while maintaining the carpet’s durability.
