What Accessories Are Needed To Install Seagrass Carpets?
Before starting with the installation process you must make sure to get these within your hand reach. That will allow you a smoother and less time-consuming process.
Installing Seagrass Carpet (Step By Step)
I’m taking that you’ve got all the tools and ready to go now. If so then next up for you is to follow the 5 steps I mentioned below.
So, shall we start!
1. Acclimate the Carpet
First and foremost you should know that acclimation takes time. Therefore you need to allow your seagrass carpet to acclimate for at least 24 hours. That is before you start installing it.
This action helps you to account for potential shrinkage, as seagrass can shrink 2-3 inches on the sides once the carpet in rolls is unrolled and exposed to the elements. Some even say it can shrink about 3”-4” too.
2. Prepare the Room
Preparing your room is highly necessary. And before you scroll over this step you should know it includes more than just cleaning.
You need to place the tack strips around the perimeter of your room, leaving a slight gap of about ¼ inch between the strip and the wall.
Oh and throughout the process “The Weekend says that your room’s temperature should stay consistently never over 65% for at least 48 hours⏱️”
Next, use the padding of your preferred choice to provide a comfortable underfoot feel. Some of my friends say it reduces noise by approx. 20-30%😳
I also got to know that I should keep this condition up for 72 hours even after completion. And for the emissions rate testing which is absolutely necessary use an anhydrous calcium chloride moisture test kit. In general, an emission rate of 3.0 lbs or less is acceptable for your concrete floor.
3. Cut and Fit the Carpet
Take your measuring tape and measure your room’s dimensions. Then you’d want to add an extra 3-4 inches to each side when cutting the carpet to ensure a proper fit.
Now for the final part of this step lay your carpet down in the room. Don’t forget to make sure that it overlaps the tack strips.
4. Stretch and Secure the Carpet
Stretch the carpet by 1-2% of its length to avoid wrinkles.
Use the carpet tractor and smooth out the carpet. Make sure very cautiously that your carpet is sticking well with the adhesive and tack strips you are using.
In general, I can say that you’ll need about 7 square yards per gallon of adhesive. And for spreading the adhesive evenly use a 1/8” x 1/8” U-notched trowel.
5. Seam Placement
If your room is wider than around 12 feet like mine is, you’ll need to be sort of tactical. Strategically place seams and secure them with double-sided adhesive tape. However, make sure that the seams are not in high-traffic areas so you can prevent wear and tear.
You can use a carpet seam roller to avoid this.
6. Final Adjustments
The most satisfying part of the process is trimming. Trim any excess carpet along the edges for a neat finish and see how it looks changes with each stroke.
As I mentioned before after installation, you’ve gotta allow the carpet at least 72 hours.
After that only it’s always fine to make a heavy use of it. Add some carpet accessories of your choice too (if you like that is).
Mistakes to Avoid in Installing Seagrass Carpet
There are certain mistakes that you need to be aware of to avoid.
For starters “The article I found on Bob Villa says hiring a professional can cost you about $60 per hour or $0.30 per square foot.”
Since you already know that doing so yourself is easy I think paying the amount would be a mistake.
For the remaining parts here’s what you need to avoid-
